Dementia Friendly Platform: Phase Three

Mortar enters the third phase of development with the Mayor of London, deepening support for cultural organisations undertaking the Dementia Friendly Venues Charter and expanding platform functionality.

Phase Three of the Dementia Friendly Platform

We are pleased to announce that Mortar has entered the third phase of development with the Mayor of London on the Dementia Friendly Venues Charter — expanding the platform's reach, functionality, and support offer for the cultural sector.

This phase marks a significant step forward in the Charter's evolution: deepening the support available to venues undertaking accreditation, broadening the resources available across the sector, and delivering meaningful improvements to the platform's functionality.

Wrap-Around Support for Cultural Organisations

A central focus of phase three is the delivery of a dedicated support service for cultural organisations undertaking the accreditation process. Working closely with the GLA team, Mortar will be providing wrap-around service support — helping venues navigate the Charter's requirements, build their dementia-friendly offer, and embed lasting change in how they welcome and support people living with dementia.

Alongside this, we will be developing a suite of resources, case studies, and webinars with the GLA team for the wider cultural sector — giving organisations the guidance, evidence, and inspiration they need to become genuinely dementia-inclusive.

A New Addition to the Team

To support the delivery of this phase, Mortar is working with a new Dementia Friendly Associate — bringing dedicated expertise to the team and supporting both the operational delivery of the Charter and the provision of wrap-around services for cultural organisations.

New Platform Features and Modules

Phase three also brings significant platform development, with new features and modules expanding on the Charter's existing accreditation framework. This includes new mandatory requirements and case study implementations to raise the standard of what it means to be a dementia-friendly venue.

New user-facing developments — built on the foundations laid in earlier phases — will be further expanded during this phase. These include:

  • User feedback tools: Capturing the experience of venues and users throughout the accreditation journey
  • Certification and asset creation: Giving accredited venues the digital assets they need to communicate their status and commitment
  • Improved presentation of the local dementia-friendly offer: Making it easier for people living with dementia, their families, and carers to find and connect with welcoming venues and programmes in their area
